Ryan Graham grew up on Elm St. in Conshohocken and moved to Norristown in 2004. He is the youngest of five boys. He began the running lifestyle in high school. After being cut from the ninth grade basketball team he decided to try something different by trying out for the track team. Once he started running, it became a part of him. He ran the mile, 2-mile, 4x8 relay and cross country. He became the captain of the Plymouth Whitemarsh track team, received multiple MVP awards in Cross Country and made First Team All League in Cross Country his senior year.
He has a BA from West Chester University and an MBA from Strayer University. Although he works as an investment operations analyst by day, running has always been his true passion.
The running club started from his wanting to connect with people and share awesome running experiences. One day, using the Nextdoor application, he asked his neighbors if anyone wanted to start a running group. Many neighbors gave positive feedback to the idea. Ryan met Matt Mitchell through the Nextdoor App and through their coordinative efforts the website and fb groups were developed.
Ryan is extremely appreciative of every person who takes the time out of their lives to come out and run with the Norristown Running Club. The more the better!
Matt Mitchell grew up in a small town in South Jersey and attended Haddon Heights High School. He earned a scholarship to LaSalle University for the Track&Field and Cross Country team. He was coached by Charles Torpey at LaSalle who coached him to Jr. All American honors in the 10k. The LaSalle team won the Atlantic 10 conference in 2006 while Matt placed 11th in the Atlantic 10 to earn him 1st Team All Conference honors.
Matt met his wife, Nicole, on the Cross Country team in 2006. He earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in 2011. Shortly after, he took a job as a Case Coordinator for United Healthcare Group, where he currently works.
After about 8 years of hard running, Matt took a year off from running. He came back to run the Philly Marathon twice, the Philly half last year, Rock and Roll this year and the Broad Street run every year since 2014. Matt is currently training for the 2017 Philadelphia Marathon.
In 2016, Matt and Nicole got married and bought a house in West Norriton Twp, after living in King of Prussia since 2014. They have a baby girl named Ailish (ay-lish) who was born July 24th, 2017.
Matt is a part time web developer currently and is the developer for this website. He is committed to leading a group that is inclusive and accepting of all ages and abilities.
Betzwood Park is a trailhead for the Schuylkill River Trail. There is a restroom, a water fountain, and ample parking. The Schuylkill River Trail is a multi-use trail with a projected length of almost 130 miles. There are currently over 60 miles complete in sections, including a 30-plus mile stretch from Philadelphia to Parkerford. The trail is part of an ambitious plan to link many local trails together known as the The Circuit. The SRT is mostly flat with very few exceptions.
